Gold’s Gym, synonymous with Arnold Schwarzenegger and iconic California fitness culture, has launched a state-of-the-art facility in Long Beach as part of a major reinvestment in Southern California. The gym’s franchise group, Gold’s Gym SoCal, has allocated $15 million for renovations, remodels, and new openings across the region this year and next.
Located at The Pike Outlets, the new Gold’s Gym Long Beach aims to be the premier destination for fitness enthusiasts. “This facility is designed to help our members achieve their fitness goals,” said Brian Morris, senior vice president of Gold’s Gym SoCal, which manages 23 locations in the area.
The expansion into Long Beach follows successful establishments in nearby cities such as Cerritos, Garden Grove, and La Mirada. The new gym’s launch was met with enthusiasm, drawing over 500 new members on its opening day. Since its debut, the Long Beach location has seen a 288% increase in member check-ins and a 531% surge in new memberships.
Inside Gold’s Gym Long Beach
The two-story Long Beach club is equipped with Eleiko strength-training platforms, a vast free-weight area, a recovery zone featuring HydroMassage beds, a sauna, steam room, group exercise options, personal training services, a turf area with sled lanes, and a boxing rig with heavy bags. A unique feature of the facility is the “Escape Room,” offering a quiet, specialized training environment.
“The Escape Room provides a unique, atmospheric training space,” Morris explained. “It’s designed to immerse members in an engaging environment filled with the latest functional training tools.” This private area includes traditional free weights, lifting platforms, battle ropes, slam balls, medicine balls, core bags, Strongbox benches, plyo boxes, and Bulgarian bags. It caters to members seeking a boutique training experience away from the main gym floor.
The Escape Room concept debuted at the Thousand Oaks location earlier this year, which also features a posing room for fitness content creators and new equipment.
Upgrades Across Southern California
Gold’s Gym is also upgrading other Southern California locations. The West Covina and Arcadia clubs in Los Angeles will be remodeled to include Olympic Lifting Platforms and The Playground, a versatile turf area. “If you’re into Olympic lifts or functional training and agility drills, these dedicated spaces are perfect,” Morris said.
The Fullerton location in Orange County will receive its own Escape Room and “The Bakery,” a collection of Booty Builder glute-focused machines that have become popular since their introduction at the Anaheim Town Square location in 2023.
In Garden Grove and Valencia, expanded indoor turf areas will provide more space for drills and workout classes, along with additional free-weight equipment, squat racks, and new leg machines.
Looking ahead to 2025, Gold’s Gym plans to open a $6 million facility at the Beverly Center at the start of the year.
Growing Trends in Fitness and Training
Morris noted that recovery areas and health monitoring are increasingly popular among members. InBody scans, which provide detailed body composition analysis, are particularly in demand. “Members want to track their progress, set goals, and make informed decisions based on accurate data,” he said.
Group fitness classes, including HIIT, yoga, and cycling, remain major draws. Additionally, there is a significant rise in personal training services, with the Long Beach location seeing increased demand for personalized training sessions since opening.
Gold’s Gym SoCal has expanded its personal training options to include one-on-one sessions, small group training, and virtual training, making these services more accessible and appealing to a broader range of members. “This flexibility has made our personal training services more accessible and appealing to a wider range of members,” Morris stated.
With these comprehensive upgrades and new facilities, Gold’s Gym continues to reinforce its commitment to providing top-tier fitness experiences in Southern California.
