If you’ve been battling a runny nose and scratchy throat, you’re not alone. The sight of “snow” from poplar trees signals that allergy season is in full swing in Erie County. According to a local allergist, the season has reached its peak, with patients experiencing traditional allergy symptoms as well as allergy-induced asthma, compounded by elevated pollen levels.
The intensity of the allergy season has been exacerbated by milder winters and rising CO2 levels, leading to more severe and prolonged symptoms. However, there are several ways to find relief.
“Closing windows, avoiding outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and taking a shower and changing clothes immediately after coming back inside can make a significant difference,” advised Dr. Sartaj Ahmed, a local allergist.
Dr. Ahmed also suggested that if these measures, along with over-the-counter allergy medications, do not alleviate symptoms, it may be time to consult an allergist for more tailored treatment.
