The Parks & Recreation Department is set to provide open-gym recreation for youth aged 12 to 17 from June 3 through July 19 at the Meerscheidt Recreation Center, located at 1600 E. Hadley Avenue. The open gym will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
This self-guided recreation program includes a variety of activities such as basketball, volleyball, billiards, foosball, cornhole, and ping pong. To participate, teens must check in at the front desk and present a Parks & Recreation Activity ID card upon arrival.
Additionally, teens aged 14 to 17 will have access to cardio equipment, including treadmills and ellipticals, at no cost, provided they have documented parent permission (excluding weights). Teens aged 15 to 17 may use the weight room with documented parent or legal guardian permission and must be supervised by an adult aged 18 or older.
To obtain a Parks & Recreation Activity ID card, both the parent (or guardian) and the youth must visit the Meerscheidt Recreation Center in person. They need to complete an annual waiver, provide proof of the teen’s age and grade, and have the teen’s photo taken. Activity ID cards are issued from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
