Authorities are intensifying their search for a man accused of stabbing a woman multiple times in the parking lot of Crunch Fitness in Alexandria, Sydney. The attack occurred around 12:30 PM on Wednesday, according to police reports.
The victim, a 39-year-old woman, sustained multiple stab wounds to her neck, head, and back. Detective Superintendent Rodney Hart of the South Sydney Police Area Command confirmed that the suspect and victim had a prior relationship. “We believe the offender is known to the victim,” Hart stated, describing the incident as a “targeted attack.”
Following the stabbing, the assailant reportedly escaped in a 2006 grey Ford Focus hatchback, bearing the registration AYQ14W. The suspect is described as a man in his 40s, about 170-175 cm tall, with a muscular build, dark hair, and possibly a dark beard. He was last seen wearing a grey jacket, black pants, and white sneakers.
“This is a horrendous incident that has occurred,” Hart expressed. He urged the suspect to surrender to the police as efforts are underway to secure an arrest warrant. “We are going to find him and we’re going to arrest him,” Hart emphasized, noting that the suspect is believed to have used a kitchen-style knife and might still be armed.
The incident shocked onlookers, including one named Claire, who was about to enter the gym when she heard screams and witnessed the assault. Another bystander intervened, which led the attacker to flee the scene.
The woman was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Investigators were later seen examining the scene and collecting samples from nearby cars.
