The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has officially announced a recall of approximately 245,366 pounds of frozen chicken strip products, manufactured by ConAgra Brands Inc., due to potential contamination with foreign materials, specifically pieces of plastic.
The recall pertains to Banquet brand frozen chicken strip entrees produced on June 20, July 11, and July 17, 2023, as disclosed in a statement posted on the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website on Saturday.
These frozen food cartons, each weighing 8.9 ounces, bear the label “Banquet Chicken Strips Meal” and display “Best If Used By” dates of Dec. 11, 2024, Jan. 01, 2025, and Jan. 07, 2025. Consumers should be attentive to the lot numbers, which are printed on the cartons’ sides: 5009317120, 5009319220, and 5009319820. The FSIS confirms that these products were distributed to retail outlets across the nation and were also available for purchase online.
The recall was initiated following a consumer complaint received by ConAgra, reporting the presence of plastic in the chicken strip portion of the product. This complaint also documented an oral injury associated with the consumption of the affected product.
As of the time of this publication, the FSIS has not received any further reports of injuries or illnesses linked to the recalled items.
To ensure consumer safety, the FSIS advises individuals who have purchased these items to refrain from consuming them. Instead, consumers are urged to either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase.
ConAgra Brands Inc. has not yet issued an official response to requests for additional comments regarding the recall.
