Three sisters—Tessa, Emma, and Danika Brondello—have united their careers in healthcare at Mackay Base Hospital, each pursuing a role in Allied Health with a shared commitment to supporting their community. While their individual paths led them to different fields within healthcare, their combined efforts demonstrate the deep bond they share, both as sisters and now as colleagues.
Tessa, an occupational therapist, has been with Mackay’s Community Health and Therapy Services (CHATS) for over six years, following her passion for helping others in a way that didn’t require handling needles or blood, making OT the ideal fit for her. Emma, who joined Mackay HHS four years ago as a physiotherapist, found her calling in a field influenced by her love of sports and science. Danika, the youngest of the three, began her career in occupational therapy just three months ago, following in her sisters’ footsteps with encouragement from Tessa.
Growing up on a cane farm at Eton and attending St Patrick’s College in Mackay, the Brondello sisters had always been close-knit, with a strong sense of community. Their connection to Mackay, both professionally and personally, led them to return to their hometown after graduation. The sense of family and the desire to give back to their community influenced their decision to work with Mackay HHS.
Working together has allowed the sisters to collaborate across disciplines, improving patient care and fostering stronger inter-departmental cooperation. Their professional bond is also enriched by the mutual respect they have for each other’s expertise and the understanding that comes from sharing a family background and values. While they don’t share the same passion for basketball as their famous aunt, Sandy Brondello, the coach of the Australian Opals, their careers in healthcare showcase their talents and potential in a field they are deeply committed to.
In sharing their story, the Brondello sisters highlight the importance of family, community, and collaboration in shaping both their personal and professional lives.
