Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly received a positive fitness update following an injury scare during his international duties with the Nigerian national team. The 26-year-old forward, who has been in sensational form this season, was forced off the pitch in the closing moments of Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe after experiencing discomfort in his thigh.
Osimhen, who had already scored three goals in the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, appeared to be in significant pain, leading to concerns about his availability for Galatasaray’s upcoming derby match against Beşiktaş. His injury raised fears among Galatasaray supporters, who have relied heavily on the Nigerian’s performances to maintain their top position in the Turkish Süper Lig.
However, according to insider Yakub Cinar, Osimhen’s condition is not as dire as initially feared. Cinar, citing information from Haber Sariki Mizi, confirmed that both Osimhen and Galatasaray’s star defender, Davinson Sanchez, are fit and ready for the crucial derby on Friday evening at Tupras Stadyum. “I have received information that Osimhen and Sanchez are both available to play in the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby,” Cinar stated. “However, the final decision will be made by the medical board.”
Osimhen, who has been instrumental in Galatasaray’s push for the league title, is currently the top scorer in the Süper Lig with 20 goals, leading second-place Kristof Piatek of İstanbul Başakşehir by two goals.
As the derby approaches, Galatasaray fans will be hopeful that Osimhen’s fitness will allow him to feature, especially given his pivotal role in the team’s domestic success this season.
