APX Training Systems, a fitness company founded in nearby Northbrook, is set to open a new location in Northfield after the village board approved its request for a special-use permit during the regular trustees meeting on Tuesday, March 18.
The fitness facility will occupy approximately 1,300 square feet of space at 314 Happ Road, within a mixed-use commercial and residential building. Previously, the location housed Maria Isasi, an interior design store.
Sterling Stalnaker, the owner of APX Training Systems, shared his background in fitness with trustees, noting that he began his career as a personal trainer in the North Shore region over a decade ago. “While there are many fitness businesses in the area, very few emphasize the importance of movement, mobility, and strength as central to overall health and wellness,” Stalnaker stated in his application.
According to Steve Gutierrez, Northfield’s Director of Community Development, APX Training Systems will also lease the basement of the property.
Stalnaker hopes to open the Northfield location in mid-April. The facility will operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. The business plans to limit occupancy to nine people at a time, with nearly 80 percent of training sessions offered on a one-on-one basis.
In his application letter, Stalnaker emphasized his commitment to helping residents improve their fitness and recover, enabling them to take full advantage of Northfield’s recreational amenities, including golf, tennis, and pickleball. “I truly feel that APX Training Systems is a perfect fit for the community,” he added.
