The Phoenix Fitness Center, formerly the Main Fitness Center, will partially reopen on March 24, offering strength and conditioning facilities to the base community.
Following an extensive inspection and deep-cleaning process, the undamaged portions of the facility have been deemed safe for use by the 96th Test Wing Safety Office, the 96th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department, and the 96th Medical Group Bioenvironmental Engineering team. The facility sustained damage from a fire on December 25, prompting months of restoration efforts.
“We are excited to reopen part of the Main Fitness Center following the fire,” said Lt. Col. Laura Evans, commander of the 96th Force Support Squadron. “We have aptly renamed this space ‘The Phoenix’ as a symbol of its resurgence from the ashes. We are grateful to the civil engineering, fire, bioenvironmental, public health, and safety teams who worked tirelessly to ensure this portion of the facility is safe. We look forward to welcoming patrons back.”
The Phoenix Fitness Center will offer a range of equipment, including cardio machines, free weights, and plate-loaded equipment. However, the facility will not have restrooms, showers, or water fountains available. Limited locker space will be provided for temporary use, and patrons are encouraged to bring their own water bottles. The entrance to the facility is on the southeast side of the building, to the left of the main entrance.
To accommodate visitors, five portable restrooms will be placed near the entrance, and indoor restrooms will be accessible in the Legends Sports Grill lobby. Showers will be available at the Field House near the East Gate shopette.
The Phoenix Fitness Center will operate Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The facility will not offer 24/7 access.
Additionally, the Lightning Fitness Center will remain open and staffed Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while the Field House Fitness Center will operate Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both the Lightning and Field House Fitness Centers will continue to provide 24/7 access.
