As Telangana prepares to host the 72nd Miss World pageant from May 7 to May 31, 2025, the state’s rural charm will take center stage, offering a unique cultural experience to both participants and global audiences.
The state government is set to highlight Telangana’s rich heritage, vibrant traditions, and picturesque tourist attractions throughout the pageant. With more than 3,000 media representatives expected to attend, the Tourism and Culture Department views the event as a prime opportunity to elevate Telangana’s rural beauty and cultural legacy on the world stage.
The grand opening and closing ceremonies will be held in Hyderabad, with prominent venues like Hitex, Shilparamam, and Gachibowli Stadium chosen for the events. The state plans to host an Olympic-style opening ceremony, ensuring that the event will be a historic moment for both the city and the pageant.
While the main festivities will take place in the capital, several key events are set to be held in Telangana’s rural areas. The plan includes introducing contestants to the state’s traditional arts, crafts, and tourism destinations. Participants will don handloom sarees during ramp walks and visit iconic sites such as Pochampally, the Ramappa Temple, Buddhavanam, Laknavaram, Yadagirigutta, Nagarjunasagar, and Vikarabad, in a bid to boost the global profile of Telangana’s cultural heritage.
Among the notable rural stops will be Pochampally, a village internationally renowned for its handloom sarees and named the Best Tourism Village globally. Contestants will engage with local weavers, gaining insight into traditional weaving techniques, before showcasing the iconic Pochampally sarees in the ramp walk.
The itinerary also includes visits to the Ramappa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Buddhavanam project at Nagarjunasagar, an emerging global hub for Buddhist tourism. These initiatives aim to introduce the contestants to the rich Buddhist heritage of the region.
In an effort to further promote the state’s heritage, the Tourism Department is preparing promotional videos focused on Warangal’s Kakatiya forts and other significant landmarks. These materials will be showcased to international audiences, further bolstering Telangana’s cultural visibility and appeal.
