Gardening equipment has been donated to the St Non Ward at Withybush Hospital, supporting therapeutic activities for older adult patients with mental health conditions.
The donation was made possible through Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board. The charitable funds were used to purchase a variety of gardening supplies, including raised garden beds, a birdbath, a greenhouse, plant pots, wind spinners, and watering cans.
Lara Schmidt, an occupational therapist at the ward, expressed gratitude for the contributions. “The gardening equipment will greatly enhance the work of our occupational therapy team, who run a gardening group at St Non Ward. It will help create a positive patient experience by providing movement, sensory, emotional, cognitive, and social benefits for the older adults in our care,” she said.
The gardening sessions are designed to support patients’ well-being by encouraging engagement with nature and promoting overall mental health.
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, highlighted the importance of community support. “The generosity of our local communities enables us to offer services beyond what the NHS can provide across the three counties of Hywel Dda. We are deeply thankful for every donation,” she added.
Hywel Dda Health Charities continues to seek support to enhance patient care and improve the experience of NHS patients and staff in the region. For more information on how to contribute, visit the charity’s website.
