The Wadadli Initiative for Self-care and Healing (WISH) has issued a call for greater focus on mental health following the tragic death of Senior Sergeant Iyo Malone, a member of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda. Reports suggest that the officer, a beloved member of the community, may have taken her own life.
In a statement, WISH expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the Potters community as they cope with the loss. “Our hearts go out to Senior Sergeant Malone’s family, her colleagues in the police force, and the entire Potters community during this devastating time,” the organization said.
WISH described Malone as more than just a dedicated officer. “She was a protector, a servant of the people, and a cherished member of our community. Her passing highlights the often invisible mental health struggles that many face in silence,” the organization added.
As social media discussions surrounding the incident continue, WISH urged the public to refrain from speculation and to treat Malone’s memory with the respect it deserves. “Let us honor her legacy with dignity, not through harmful gossip. Instead, we should use this moment to educate ourselves about mental health and extend compassion to those who may be struggling.”
WISH has long advocated for increased awareness and support for mental health issues, emphasizing that mental health is as critical as physical health and that no one is immune to its challenges. The organization encouraged individuals experiencing distress to seek help without fear of judgment.
“If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. You are not alone,” WISH stated. “We remain committed to providing safe spaces for dialogue, education, and support. Let us transform our grief into action by advocating for stronger mental health policies, more accessible resources, and a culture of compassion.”
WISH concluded its statement by offering continued support to those affected by Malone’s passing. “To the family, colleagues, and friends of Senior Sergeant Iyo Malone – we stand with you in this time of sorrow. Her legacy should inspire us all to be more understanding and supportive of one another. If you are in need, please reach out to someone you trust or seek professional help.”
