Michigan State University Extension (MSUE), in partnership with the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP), is launching a free hybrid fitness program, Walk with Ease, for individuals managing arthritis. The six-week program will run from May 1 to June 5.
The Walk with Ease Hybrid program is a self-directed initiative designed to provide participants with resources and support to engage in safe and effective walking routines. Based on the curriculum developed by the American Arthritis Foundation, the program aims to help individuals understand the connection between arthritis, exercise, and pain management.
Program participants will receive a copy of the Walk with Ease book upon completing a registration survey. Throughout the program, they will also receive weekly emails containing video links and informational handouts. Facilitators will be available for questions via Zoom meetings, which will be held every Thursday at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET.
The program will cover several key topics:
- Understanding the basics of arthritis and how exercise can ease pain
- Exercising safely and comfortably
- Incorporating fun elements into walking routines
- Developing personalized walking plans with achievable fitness goals
- Accessing tips and resources to overcome obstacles to staying active
- Exploring additional programs and resources to support continued physical activity
Each week, participants will have the opportunity to review resources, share their progress, and ask questions in the Zoom meetings. The sessions aim to provide motivation and support as participants work toward their fitness goals.
