For many, the pursuit of better fitness often conjures images of intense workouts or long-distance runs. However, experts agree that improving mobility and encouraging movement in whatever form is the key to overall health—especially for those with limited access to traditional fitness options.
Chair One Fitness (COF), an innovative fitness program founded by Sharleen Bachelor, is designed to meet the needs of individuals across a wide spectrum of abilities. Whether you are a senior citizen, someone managing chronic pain, living with a disability, or struggling with obesity, COF offers a chair-based fitness experience that combines dance and daily movement exercises. The program is accessible, affordable, and focused on improving strength, mobility, and overall wellness.
With sessions priced between $3 and $5, Chair One Fitness aims to make fitness accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
“I understand how difficult it can be for people with chronic health conditions or disabilities to find fitness programs that cater to their specific needs,” said Bachelor, who has dealt with multiple health challenges herself. After her dream of becoming a firefighter was thwarted due to her epilepsy and other health conditions, Bachelor pursued a career in personal training, motivated by the desire to help others overcome similar barriers.
“Living with chronic illness means that some days you feel good enough to move, while other days you can’t. I’ve experienced that myself,” she explained. “Traditional trainers often push you to work through pain, but my approach is different. I want people to find joy in movement, to discover that exercise doesn’t have to be painful, and that it can be beneficial to both body and mind.”
Chair One Fitness classes are held at multiple locations, including the North Shepparton Community and Learning Centre, where sessions take place on Mondays at 11:45 AM and Wednesdays at 12:45 PM for $5 per session. A third location at the Wilmot Road Primary School Community Hub offers Friday morning sessions at 9:30 AM for just $3 per class.
