Little Trinity Nursery recently participated in Time to Talk Day, a national mental health initiative aimed at encouraging open discussions about mental well-being. Held on Thursday, February 6, Time to Talk Day is the largest event of its kind in the UK, designed to promote conversations around mental health.
The children at the nursery engaged in a series of activities to help them express their emotions and feelings. These included using puppets, a “worry monster,” self-regulation techniques, conversation-starter cards, and a special emotions board designed to foster dialogue about mental health.
Gaynor Carter, the nursery manager, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “Time to Talk Day is a wonderful opportunity for both children and staff to share their feelings.” She emphasized that encouraging young children to communicate their emotions has a positive impact on their personal, social, and emotional development, as well as their communication skills.
“Talking about feelings ensures that children understand that help is available when needed,” Carter continued. “Knowing that support exists can make a big difference in leading happier lives.”
Time to Talk Day serves as a reminder that fostering open conversations about mental health from an early age can contribute to long-term emotional well-being.
