Indian athletes and fitness influencers are uniting in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to combat obesity, first voiced during the opening ceremony of the 38th National Games 2025 in Dehradun.
Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh has underscored the importance of dietary awareness in this fight against obesity. On social media platform X, he stated, “Eating well is the first step towards a healthier, happier life. Let’s make Fit Food India a lifestyle, inspired by PM Modi’s commitment to fitness.”
Echoing Sreejesh’s message, table tennis star Manika Batra emphasized the importance of mindful eating. “The food we eat shapes our health. Let’s commit to nutritious choices and make Fit Food India a way of life, contributing to PM Modi’s mission for a fitter India,” she wrote on X.
MMA champion and Fit India icon Sangram Singh took the opportunity to highlight the urgency of prioritizing health. In a video message, Singh said, “The most essential thing for the human body is to eat well and stay fit. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister has urged this, and we must fight against obesity. At the end of life, wealth and luxuries won’t matter—only our body will carry us forward. Let’s make ourselves healthy and take the country ahead.”
With these prominent sports figures leading the charge, the movement against obesity is gaining momentum. Last Sunday, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative took place at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi, where Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led a group of over 250 doctors and nutritionists in furthering PM Modi’s call to tackle obesity in India.
The call to action, originally made by Prime Minister Modi at the 38th National Games, continues to resonate with people across the country. He stressed the significance of addressing obesity, a growing concern across all age groups, and urged citizens to take action for a healthier future.
