The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) is now accepting applications for its In a Good Place (IAGP) program, offering grants of up to $20,000 to support community-led initiatives that promote mental, social, and emotional health in remote, rural, and regional areas, particularly in farming communities.
This funding round sees a total of $290,000 available to aid projects that address mental health challenges. The program prioritizes initiatives focused on increasing mental health education, reducing stigma, fostering social connections, and encouraging individuals to seek mental health support.
The grants are available through two distinct funding streams:
Community Wellbeing: Aimed at projects designed to enhance the overall mental health and wellbeing of people in rural, regional, and remote areas.
Farmers and Farming Communities: Targeted at initiatives specifically supporting the mental health of farmers and their local communities.
Jill Karena, FRRR’s Head of Granting, highlighted the resilience of Australia’s farming communities but emphasized the importance of mental health support, noting that even the most resilient individuals require assistance from time to time.
“There’s a longstanding stigma in rural communities around discussing mental health, but that narrative is shifting,” said Ms. Karena. “With the help of our funding partners, we are supporting local groups to drive this change, challenge stigma, and foster open, honest conversations about mental health.”
She also emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable community members’ social and emotional wellbeing, especially in farming communities. “We are eager to see the innovative and community-driven mental health projects proposed by groups across the country,” Ms. Karena added.
Interested groups must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by 14 February 2025. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to submit full applications, which are due by 11 March 2025.
