A new service launched in Dorset is seeking to address the growing concerns over lengthy wait times for mental health assessments in the UK, particularly for conditions like autism, ADHD, and general mental health issues.
HealthCare in Mind, a private health provider, has opened its doors in Dorset to offer an alternative for individuals facing long delays in accessing NHS mental health support. With NHS wait times for autism and ADHD assessments often stretching between one to two years, the new service provides immediate access to care for those in need.
The service offers both remote and in-person appointments to ensure greater flexibility for clients. Among the services available are diagnostic assessments for children and adults, as well as therapy treatments for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Dr. Simon Le Clerc, one of the leaders of the service, emphasized the increasing demand for mental health support in Dorset. “The number of adults and children seeking help for mental health issues has risen dramatically, and NHS waiting lists are struggling to keep up,” he explained. “It is not uncommon for people to wait up to a year for their first appointment for conditions like ADHD, autism, and other mental health assessments. Afterward, there are often further delays for therapy treatments that can help manage these conditions.”
HealthCare in Mind aims to provide private, tailored neurodiversity assessments as a quicker alternative for families and individuals looking for immediate solutions. Dr. Le Clerc added, “Our goal is to collaborate with the NHS in the future to help clear the waiting lists. However, for those who need help today, our service is available now.”
