The 7th edition of the Manipal Marathon was officially launched today by Indian cricketer Shreyanka Patil at the MAHE Bengaluru campus, setting the stage for the main event scheduled for February 9, 2025, in Manipal, Udupi district. The early morning promotional run, which began at 6:30 AM, attracted thousands of participants, marking the beginning of an exciting countdown to the marathon.
With a global reach, the Manipal Marathon has firmly established itself as the largest student-organized marathon in India. This year, the event is expected to draw over 20,000 participants from across the country and the world. The marathon, embracing the theme “Innovation in Motion” and the tagline “Embracing Technology for Health and Fitness,” aims to incorporate the latest technological advancements to promote health and fitness through running.
The race route, internationally certified by IAAF AIMS, will take runners through the picturesque landscapes of Manipal and along the Udupi coastline. Along with the exciting race, a grand carnival will be held post-event, offering an array of celebrations for participants and spectators alike. The marathon also promises attractive prize money, which is expected to draw elite athletes and passionate runners.
Dr. Raghavendra Prabhu P, Deputy Registrar at MAHE Bengaluru Campus, shared his thoughts on the event: “The Manipal Marathon is a testament to the power of health, fitness, and community spirit. It has grown into one of India’s most significant marathon events and showcases how technology can enhance health and fitness. This marathon not only promotes physical health but also serves as an inspiration for everyone to lead a healthier lifestyle.”
Indian cricketer Shreyanka Patil expressed her excitement about the event, saying, “I am thrilled to be part of this incredible event, which offers a platform for people from all walks of life to participate with great enthusiasm. The marathon perfectly combines wellness and technology, offering something for everyone.”
Mr. Ravindra Rai M., Managing Director & CEO of BOBCARD Limited, emphasized the role of technology in sports: “Innovation is key to advancing fitness training, performance monitoring, and injury prevention. The theme ‘Innovation in Motion’ reflects the evolving fitness landscape, and the marathon is a great way to motivate the next generation to stay active.”
The event also featured a Promo Run that saw more than fifty visually challenged participants joining the race alongside 1,500 students and other enthusiasts. Shika Shetty, Manager of the Visually Challenged Indian Cricket Team, Kiran Kumar, Senior VP at UNext Learning, and Dr. Vinod C. Nayak, Secretary of the Sports Council at MAHE Manipal, were among the notable attendees at the launch.
The registration for the Manipal Marathon is nearing its close, with the deadline set for January 31, 2025. Aspiring participants still have the chance to register for the marathon ahead of the main event on February 9, 2025, in Manipal.
