Seattle Plastic Surgery Provider Fined $5 Million

A Seattle-area plastic surgery provider, Allure Esthetic, and its owner, Dr. Javad Sajan, have been ordered to pay $5 million as part of a federal consent decree following accusations of manipulating online reviews and intimidating patients. Filed by state Attorney General Bob Ferguson in December 2022, the lawsuit alleged violations of consumer protection laws, including posting fake reviews and enforcing illegal nondisclosure agreements.

The resolution mandates Allure to pay approximately $1.5 million in restitution to about 21,000 affected Washingtonians, with amounts varying based on individual circumstances. The remainder of the settlement will cover attorney fees, litigation costs, and ongoing enforcement of the consent decree by Ferguson’s office.

Ferguson emphasized the importance of consumer trust in reviews when making decisions about health and safety services. The resolution requires Allure to cease illegal practices, undergo a forensic audit of its rebate program, and comply with terms for the next decade.

The case highlighted unethical practices such as fake reviews, manipulated contest entries, and threats against patients posting negative feedback. Violations included breaching consumer protection laws and privacy rights under HIPAA.

Patients affected by Allure’s actions can expect restitution and ongoing oversight to prevent future misconduct, underscoring Ferguson’s commitment to protecting consumer rights in Washington state.
