Countryfile hosts Matt Baker, Julia Bradbury, and Adam Henson have candidly discussed their recent health challenges and recoveries.
Former gymnast Matt Baker revealed on Gabby Logan’s Mid Point podcast how a severe back injury from an on-stage accident during a pantomime left him in debilitating pain. Baker, known for his athleticism, explained how the injury prevented him from continuing gymnastics. “I was doing a panto, and the chair wasn’t set correctly. I went down on my coccyx and slipped a disc in my back,” he said. Despite his wife Nicola, a physiotherapist, helping as much as she could, Baker eventually needed nerve block injections to manage the pain.
Reflecting on his condition, Baker noted, “It doesn’t hurt when I bend forward. I’m trying to keep fit with a bad back, and those are the challenges as you get older.”
Fellow presenter Adam Henson also faced health concerns after a ‘mystery’ injury left a noticeable mark on his face. Fans expressed their worries on social media. Henson, who underwent hip resurfacing surgery in 2022, updated fans on his recovery, saying, “The feeling in my legs and waist have all come back now. My right leg, which I had done, is still a bit tingly.”
Julia Bradbury, a former Countryfile star, shared her journey following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2021, which led to a mastectomy. By the end of 2023, she was in remission and emphasized the importance of proactive self-care. “No sign of disease, but I’m very proactive. I really take exercise and my lifestyle choices very, very seriously now,” she said. Bradbury continues to inspire her followers with health advice and updates on her Instagram page.
