Spring Chicks Honor D-Day with ‘Wartime Workout’

by Krystal

Members of Binstead’s Spring Chicks, a fitness and dance group for women over 50, honored the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a special ‘wartime workout’.

In a heartfelt tribute to veterans, the group adapted their exercise routine to include the ‘Spitfire stretch’ and other moves symbolizing wartime resilience. Their workout was accompanied by songs from Billy Cotton and Glenn Miller, creating an authentic atmosphere of the era.

Alice Blue, the organizer of Spring Chicks, explained the significance of the event. “As most of us are past the 70s mark, our parents served in the war – so it really wasn’t history for us when we were growing up. But neither is it nostalgia. Rather, it is about a very serious six years when ordinary folk – our mums and dads – fought, worked, and endured. As you get older, and you see another generation of young men and women serving and fighting, you realize just how extraordinary our young parents were.”

The Spring Chicks meet on weekdays in the hall at Binstead Methodist Church, continuing to combine fitness and community spirit in their sessions.
