Whether portraying a boxer in “Creed,” a mercenary in “Black Panther,” or a doctor in “That Awkward Moment,” Michael B. Jordan’s impressive physique has often been front and center. Now 37, the actor has continually refined his fitness regimen to stay camera-ready, with a recent emphasis on stretching.
Speaking to CNBC Make It during the promotion of his new partnership with Propel, Jordan emphasized the increased preparation required for physically demanding roles as he has aged. “When you’re young, you’re like, ‘I don’t have time to stretch. Let me get right into the action,’” he explained. “That catches up to you a little bit. Warming up your body before you jump right into the action is something you have to do more of as you get older.”
Jordan now starts each day with stretching, meditation, and deep breathing exercises. He has also become more attuned to fueling his body properly. The “Fruitvale Station” star acknowledges the importance of a balanced diet but stresses moderation over strict restrictions. “I don’t cut it out, but you’ve got to have more discipline and moderation,” he says. “You know what the consequences are if you eat like s–t.”
As a self-proclaimed “foodie,” Jordan believes in allowing himself cheat days to indulge, making it easier to adhere to a stricter diet while training for action roles. “It’s something that you have to learn,” he notes. “You have to give yourself something along the way that keeps you motivated and locked in. Finding out what that is is really up to the individual.”
By incorporating these strategies, Michael B. Jordan continues to maintain the high level of fitness required for his demanding roles, demonstrating a balanced approach to health and discipline.
