On April 29, Afghanistan initiated a nationwide polio vaccination campaign, according to an announcement by Taliban authorities. The Taliban-run Health Ministry stated that the four-day campaign aims to immunize children in 31 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces. The remaining three provinces—Ghor, Daikundi, and Bamyan—will begin their immunization efforts later due to heavy rains and cold weather.
In addition to polio vaccines, children will also receive doses of vitamin A, which helps boost their resistance to infectious diseases, the ministry reported.
Afghanistan, alongside Pakistan, remains one of the last countries where polio has not been completely eradicated. The health initiative underscores the ongoing efforts to combat the disease in these regions.
