Another study, conducted in Spain in 2009, revealed that adherence to the traditional Mediterranean diet significantly reduced the likelihood of a depression diagnosis.

The dual impact of gut health on mental well-being and vice versa creates a reciprocal relationship. A diet rich in fiber, fruits, vegetables, and probiotics supports gut health, thereby positively influencing mental well-being. Conversely, a diet laden with processed foods and unhealthy fats can disrupt gut bacteria, making individuals more susceptible to mental health issues.
