Alnwick Town manager Richard Latimer has made a significant contribution to mental health charity MIND after participating in a charity boxing match. The event, held at the Lancastrian Suite in Dunston, was part of the Ultimate White Collar Boxing (UWCB) initiative, where Latimer took to the ring in a bid to raise funds for the cause.
The match proved to be a challenging one for the manager, but he emerged victorious, securing a £1,500 donation for MIND. Reflecting on the experience, Latimer said, “It was a really hard fight, but I won, thankfully, and raised £1,500 for MIND. I’ve had fantastic support from everyone, but it’s now time to hang the gloves up.”
Meanwhile, on the football pitch, Latimer’s Alnwick Town side suffered a frustrating late setback in their Northern League Second Division clash with Billingham Synthonia. The team appeared to be on course for a fifth consecutive win when Antonio Agostinho’s strike put them ahead. However, a last-minute equalizer from Jack Spears in the 92nd minute denied Alnwick the three points they had looked set to claim.
Latimer expressed his disappointment, saying, “We’ve been on a brilliant run of form and we’re gutted to let the three points slip in the 92nd minute. However, Billingham is a tough place to go, and it shows how much we have learned over the season. We have three big games to go and will try to finish as high as we can.”
Looking ahead, Alnwick Town will face fifth-placed Esh Winning at St. James’s Park this weekend, with the manager and his team determined to finish the season on a high note.
