In a recent endeavor by the Sports Academy of the Salaam Bombay Foundation (SBF), Indian cricket sensation Ajinkya Rahane took center stage as a mentor for a select group of students. This mentoring session, designed exclusively for the “Fitness Monitors,” a cohort of motivated young individuals enrolled in municipal or government-aided schools, showcased Rahane’s commitment to fostering fitness and positive community transformation.
These handpicked students were recognized for their unwavering dedication to long-term fitness pursuits. The event’s central objective revolved around encouraging these adolescents to adopt a fitness-centric lifestyle while positioning them as agents of positive change within their respective communities.
The interactive session facilitated a direct dialogue between the students and Mr. Rahane. Through this engagement, participants gleaned insights into Rahane’s personal fitness journey, a transformative voyage that catapulted him to the esteemed position of one of India’s premier cricketers. Additionally, SBF thoughtfully curated engaging fitness activities that seamlessly integrated elements of cricket, physical well-being, and the refinement of motor skills.
To date, the Salaam Bombay Sports Academy has extended its training to an impressive count of 2,200 students. Notably, nearly half of these participants, totaling 1,050 individuals, are female. This initiative is under the umbrella of the “Fitness Program.” Among the beneficiaries, a cohort of 100 exceptional students has been designated as ‘Fitness Monitors.’ Over the course of the past year, the “Fitizens Program” facilitated the training of over 4,400 community members dispersed across diverse regions of India. These initiatives were conducted under the dedicated guidance of our adolescent ‘Fitness Monitors.’
