DOHA: Qatar marks its 2025 National Sport Day today, with a nationwide celebration emphasizing physical activity, community connection, and overall well-being. The country is set to embrace the theme “Never Too Late,” with events catering to all age groups and fitness levels.
Since the inception of National Sport Day in 2012, Qatar has been one of the few nations globally to declare a national holiday dedicated to sports, held every second Tuesday in February. This initiative reflects the country’s ongoing commitment to promoting fitness and public health.
The 2025 edition of the event promises an expanded roster of activities, with entities ranging from government ministries to sports federations and private companies hosting a variety of fitness events. These activities will be available across multiple cities, including Doha, Lusail, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Umm Salal, and Al Khor, with additional events planned at Sealine.
The Ministry of Municipality has completed preparations at Qatar’s beaches, which will be equipped with sports fields, children’s play zones, and landscaped green spaces, providing an inviting atmosphere for the day’s activities.
A major highlight of the event will be the inaugural Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Half Marathon 2025, taking place at Lusail Boulevard. The marathon will bring together professional athletes and amateur runners from over 100 countries. The race will feature four categories, including the Half Marathon (21 km), 10 km, 5 km, and a 1 km Fun Run, ensuring accessibility for participants of all ages and fitness levels.
The races will begin early in the morning, with the Half Marathon kicking off at 6:00 am, followed by the 10 km race at 7:00 am, the 5 km run at 7:30 am, and the 1 km Fun Run at 8:30 am. Organizers have made extensive arrangements to ensure the event’s success.
Salah Al Saadi, QOC Assistant Director of the Sport Events Department, emphasized the significance of Lusail Boulevard as the venue, noting its historical importance as the site of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022’s memorable final moments. “This legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Qataris,” Al Saadi said.
The Qatar Foundation will also host a series of events, including the Education City Run, featuring races of 10 km, 5 km, and 3 km for adults, as well as two junior races of 3 km and 800 meters. The event is expected to draw large crowds of participants.
In addition, the Old Doha Port will host family-friendly activities, including open-water events such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, fitness workshops, and interactive games focused on health and sustainability. These events are organized in collaboration with various national ministries and organizations, making it a community-centered celebration of sport and well-being across Qatar.
