Lindengate, a mental health charity based in Wendover, has supported more than 2,500 individuals through its wellbeing programmes, social therapeutic horticulture, and open garden sessions in 2024.
The organisation specialises in using gardening and nature-focused activities to promote mental health and wellbeing. Without the generous contributions of staff, volunteers, donors, grants, and supporters, these services would not be possible.
Annette, who participated in Lindengate’s nine-week Wellbeing and Nature Course, shared how the programme transformed her life. “It has renewed my self-belief and confidence, lifted my depression, and opened up my love for nature,” she said. “Volunteering gave me a sense of belonging and taught me valuable new skills.”
James, a volunteer with Lindengate, described how the charity provided vital support during a difficult period in his life. “When I started volunteering, my relationship had broken down, and I had left my family home,” he explained. “Coming to the gardens gave me something to focus on and helped me through a tough emotional time.”
A parent of a Green Volunteen also spoke about the impact Lindengate has had on her child’s life. “The calming environment helped her cope with the ongoing challenges of bereavement, bullying, self-harming, and neurodiversity issues,” the parent said. “Lindengate gave her back her self-belief, confidence, and the ability to trust again.”
Lindengate’s initiatives highlight the power of nature and community support in improving mental health and providing long-term benefits to those in need.
