Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, 60, has opened up about his health struggles, including a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and liver failure. In an interview with Cleveland Magazine published on July 9, Kosar shared that he has been placed on the liver transplant list, although his condition has recently improved.
Kosar described a severe health crisis earlier this year, including E. coli blood poisoning and heart issues, stating, “I looked like death. I felt like death.” His doctor, Dr. Michael Roizen, estimates a 90 percent chance that Kosar will eventually need a liver transplant.
Kosar reflected on his ongoing health challenges, revealing that he was diagnosed with cirrhosis last year. He recounted a troubling moment during a Browns game against the Jets, which he described as when his body “gave out.”
Dr. Anthony Post noted that Kosar’s liver disease can fluctuate rapidly, emphasizing the uncertainty of his condition. Despite these challenges, Kosar has focused on maintaining a positive outlook and staying proactive about his health, including taking supplements, exercising, and adhering to a prescribed diet.
Kosar remains hopeful, stating, “I visualize good health. It’s about choosing to be positive.”
