In a video posted by Generation Iron, a gymgoer was seen performing a highly unconventional and dangerous variation of the squat. Initially, everything appeared normal from a distance, but a closer look revealed a potentially hazardous technique. The individual had placed the barbell below his shoulders, on his mid-back, and was gripping it with his hands positioned backward.
Despite using a substantial amount of weight and completing several repetitions, the gymgoer’s form was highly precarious. This unorthodox method posed a significant risk of shoulder dislocation and triceps tendon tears. The swaying barbell also threatened to drop on either side, endangering other gym users. The individual struggled visibly with the weight, further increasing the danger.
The fitness community quickly condemned the risky behavior. One commenter sarcastically noted, “No one talking about how impressive that actually is,” while another criticized, “Just cuz you can, doesn’t mean you should.” The exercise was dubbed “Triceps and shoulder dislocated squats” and “The tendon ripper” by disgruntled viewers. Some questioned the logic behind the stunt, with one asking, “What is the actual point of this?” and another wondering, “Do some guys just TRY to get injured?”
