Dr. Benjamin Brown, a licensed plastic surgeon practicing across multiple states, has been arrested in Florida on charges related to the death of his wife, Hillary Ellington Brown. The incident occurred at his medical office, Restore Plastic Surgery, where Hillary suffered a medical emergency during a procedure and subsequently passed away in the hospital a week later on November 28, 2023.
Dr. Brown faces charges of second-degree felony homicide and manslaughter by culpable negligence. His medical license was suspended by the Florida Department of Health in May following an investigation that highlighted not only Hillary’s tragic death but also other alleged instances of malpractice.
According to the administrative complaint reviewed by Court TV, Hillary was undergoing several cosmetic procedures including muscle plication, liposuction on her arms, lip injections, and ear adjustments. Despite lacking medical training or a license, she reportedly prepared her own IV solution on the day of the incident.
The complaint details Benjamin Brown’s alleged failure to document Hillary’s medications properly, as she consumed a mix of pills, including Valium, before showing signs of sedation during the procedure. Despite her deteriorating condition, Dr. Brown purportedly continued with the surgeries, administering additional anesthesia and performing liposuction.
Hillary subsequently experienced blurred vision, seizures, and became unresponsive. Dr. Brown initiated CPR and emergency services were called after approximately 20 minutes. Hillary was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest with suspected lidocaine toxicity and elevated lactic acid levels, but she never regained consciousness.
The administrative complaint also revealed previous complaints against Dr. Brown for performing unauthorized procedures, including gluteal fat injections, despite objections from patients. In at least one instance, Hillary assisted in such a procedure without a license.
Dr. Benjamin Brown holds medical licenses in multiple states, including the District of Columbia, West Virginia, and Virginia, according to state records.
