Dr. Jon Mendelsohn, medical director at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center in Cincinnati, sheds light on the increasing trend of upper blepharoplasty, a procedure aimed at reducing the appearance of tired eyes, particularly among men.
The procedure involves lifting the eyelids to create a more rejuvenated and refreshed look. Dr. Mendelsohn, who regularly performs blepharoplasties on his patients, recently underwent the procedure himself to enhance his own eye appearance. He described the process, involving a suture placed under the skin near the nose, with a tiny portion visible externally.
Commenting on the growing popularity of upper blepharoplasty, Dr. Mendelsohn highlighted its longevity in results and minimal downtime as key factors driving its appeal. He noted that while traditionally more common among women, men now account for a significant portion of patients opting for this procedure.
“This is probably the No. 1 male procedure,” Dr. Mendelsohn remarked, citing statistics where men constitute 18% of patients compared to 82% women undergoing upper blepharoplasty.
The procedure’s effectiveness in reducing signs of aging around the eyes and its relatively quick recovery time have contributed to its rise in popularity among both genders seeking a more youthful appearance.
Dr. Mendelsohn’s personal experience underscores the procedure’s appeal and effectiveness, reflecting broader trends in cosmetic surgery aimed at enhancing facial aesthetics and boosting self-confidence.
