An 18-year-old Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt from Indianapolis intervened when he suspected a man of attempting to steal his car outside his gym, but the situation quickly escalated. Gavin Archer confronted Andrew Wilkerson, a mechanic, who was allegedly trying to access Archer’s vehicle for an inspection at a nearby muffler shop. Video footage from inside the 10th Planet Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym captured the heated exchange between Archer and Wilkerson, culminating in a physical altercation.
Despite Wilkerson’s claims of a misunderstanding, Archer was seen grappling with him, eventually overpowering him and delivering punches. Wilkerson argued that he mistook Archer’s car for one he was scheduled to work on. The mechanic felt threatened by Archer, who he recognized as a trained fighter, and attempted to assert himself before things escalated.
Archer, however, maintains that Wilkerson initiated the confrontation. He emphasizes the importance of deescalation but asserts his right to defend himself if necessary. The incident prompted the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to create a police report, although no arrests were made.
