“Ozempic Breasts”: A Side Effect Prompting Plastic Surgery Trends

by Krystal

A notable side effect observed in individuals, particularly women, taking GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic is the development of what’s colloquially termed “Ozempic Breasts.” This phenomenon, characterized by a deflated appearance in the breast area, has prompted many women to explore breast augmentation procedures.

The term “Ozempic Breasts” is part of a broader trend where other terms like “Ozempic face” and “Ozempic butt” have gained traction. These terms encapsulate the physical changes experienced by users, including loss of volume and decreased skin elasticity, resulting in alterations in shape and appearance in specific body parts.

Dr. Ronald F. Rosso, medical director at Peninsula Plastic Surgery, explained, “In the breast area, rapid fat loss can leave the skin envelope empty, causing the breasts to look deflated and the nipples facing downwards.”

Elie Levine, MD FACS, director of plastic surgery at Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC PLLC, outlined common symptoms associated with this phenomenon, including loss of volume, sagging, tenderness, and occasional size fluctuations.

In response to these changes, many women have turned to plastic surgery to address shifts in breast shape and size, whether through augmentation, lifting procedures, or skin tightening.

Dr. Anna Steve, a board-certified plastic surgeon with Neinstein Plastic Surgery, noted a recent increase in women seeking breast enhancement surgery, coinciding with the popularity of injectable weight loss drugs like Ozempic.

One such individual, Danielle Spillman, 38, shared her experience of undergoing breast lift surgery with 500 cubic centimeter gummy bear implants after losing 80 pounds on Ozempic, transforming her from saggy B cups to double-Ds.

While plastic surgery offers a solution for some, not all individuals may be comfortable pursuing this option. Plastic surgeons emphasize that there are various ways to adapt to changes in body shape and size.

Dr. Christopher Costa, founder of Platinum Plastic Surgery, advised individuals to embrace their new look and explore options such as shopping for clothes that complement their new size and bust, creating the best version of themselves.
