A group of Miami plastic surgery clinics, known as Jolie Plastic Surgery, has been linked to eight patient deaths over the past six years, according to an investigation by USA Today. These clinics, overseen by Dr. Ismael Labrador, account for approximately 20% of all plastic surgery-related deaths in Florida.
USA Today’s investigation uncovered that Labrador’s clinics operate with unqualified doctors performing up to eight surgeries daily. Many fatalities resulted from preventable mistakes rather than unavoidable complications. Four women died following botched Brazilian butt lift procedures where fat was mistakenly injected deep into their muscles, causing fatal internal bleeding.
Despite numerous deaths and malpractice charges against at least two doctors, Labrador remains in charge. The Florida Department of Health has investigated multiple deaths at his clinics but has yet to impose emergency suspensions on these facilities, despite their authority to do so.
Labrador maintains that doctors, not clinic owners, should be held accountable for patient deaths. However, the ongoing disciplinary actions against individual doctors have not prevented further casualties at these high-volume clinics, which continue to attract patients seeking discounted cosmetic procedures.
